Timeshares: Designed for Diehard Skiers

Whether you're shredding the fresh corduroy slopes at Killington or you're up for a day of powder at Sugarloaf, there's nothing like New England for a quick getaway. There are hosts of timeshare resorts dotted along the mountains as well and designed for skiers and snowboarders or those that just want to get away to a cozy lodge with a mug of mulled cider.

Why Timeshare?

Resorts are designed for the ski enthusiast. Developers know that a great way to experience the slopes is with family and friends. After a fantastic day out there, can you think of anything better than sitting in front of a fireplace with friends talking about that double black diamond you conquered? Unlike most hotels, you can purchase 2, 3 or even 4-bedroom suites to accommodate everyone in your party in a homelike, luxurious setting. Some resorts offer private, detached lodges, which offer all the benefits of your own chalet without having to close it up after ski season is over - or worse, digging out the driveway just to get to your front door when you arrive.

What If I Don't Want to Stay In One Place?

No doubt you've heard that if you purchase a resort, you'll be stuck going to the same destination year after year. The truth is, you have more options than that. If you purchase a New Hampshire timeshare, for instance, find out what other resorts the company owns. If the company owns in multiple locations you may be able to trade with another resort. Keep in mind though; you will have to trade like for like. If you purchased a studio with summer-only usage, don't expect to be able to get a 4-bedroom at Smuggler's Notch in Vermont during February vacation. You should also consider purchasing a membership in an exchange company. Interval International has affiliation agreements with timeshare all over the world. What's more, you can visit its website where you can review the descriptions and ratings it has assigned member resorts.

Want to Investigate Your Options?

Your best bet is to figure out what you want. Do you want a fixed week every year during the height of ski season at Sunday River in Maine? It will probably be the most expensive. On the flip side, you'll have a higher trade value. Take your time and start by looking at what's out there before you commit to one company. Try searching through the website ads of a timeshare reseller. You can also see what amenities are offered at each resort and assess what you'd like. Instead of being limited to just one company, you'll be exposed to many owners who, for one reason or another, would like to sell timeshare.
