Wildcat Mountain Ski Area is rich in tradition featuring many classic New England trails and exquisite views. Wildcat has received numerous nods from both New England skiers and various popular skiing magazines for having the best scenery in New England. On a clear day, the entirety of Mount Washington's eastern flank can be viewed including rewarding views into both Tuckerman and Hungington Ravines. The magnificent Dome of the highest peak in the northeast is enhanced with views of neighboring Mount Adams and Mount Madison to the north. No other New England ski area presents views so up close and personal with such fantastic and stunning peaks.
Wildcat's creation dates back to 1933 when a CCC team led by Charley Proctor built a class 'A' racing trail named after the mountain it was constructed upon. However, it wasn't until 1957 that Wildcat Ski Area first opened with a surface lift and the now defunct Carlevaro-Savio model gondola which was the first of it's kind within the United States. Skiers currently enjoy an amazingly quick 6 minute trip up Wildcat via a high speed quad which provides top to bottom skiing on all Wildcat's 2,112 vertical feet.
In years past, Wildcat earned a respectable reputation as a skiers' mountain featuring tough trails with a nasty bite. Wildcat admittedly has become more domesticated in recent times and now offers something for everyone. Featuring classic top to bottom runs such as the 2.75 mile (longest in New England) Polecat trail, Lynx, and Wildcat, skiers of all abilities can enjoy runs geared towards the ability level. Wildcat's Spring Skiing is amongst the best in the Northeast, especially on a clear day with it's amazing views across the notch.
