Bootfitting Guide Page 5 - Liners By Christian Denis of Elite Feet,
November 11, 2000
Liners
While many consumers only look at the shell of the boot,
the liner is also extremely important. For the ultimate in performance, combine a custom
footbed with an injectable custom liner. Most of these liners are injected with dental
impression silicon. An alternative method is closed-cell foam injection. The foam is a
little denser and less forgiving than the silicon and provides a more secure, responsive
fit. Either way, the exact impression of your heel and ankle in the injected liner will
prevent annoying heel lift.
Injection liners are a particularly good feature for
women since they typically have lower volume feet. For all skiers, however, injection
liners allow for a very snug, yet comfortable, fit with no movement inside the boot. Most
of the hard-core skiers are skiing in some type of custom injection liner.
If you do decide to go with such a liner, I recommend
that you have it done by someone with extensive experience and a guarantee that it will be
done right (or it will be redone). Ask around (locals will almost always have an opinion)
and find the bootfitter that does custom work all day long.
